Controlling your end-of-life decisions

Our advance directives workshop can bring you peace of mind

Recent news reports have shared a tragic family scenario that occurs daily in hospitals throughout the country. Family members struggle with end-of-life decisions, wanting to do what is best for their loved ones. Often they do not know what their loved one would have wanted because he or she never made those wishes known in an accepted legal document—an advance directive or living will.

Members of the Deborah Heart and Lung Center Ethics Committee are offering a workshop to explain:

• how to communicate your wishes in writing

• what makes the document "legal" so your wishes will be honored

• how to select a healthcare representative who will make your decisions when you cannot speak for yourself

• what types of treatments are usually included

Ethics Committee members will be available to assist you in filling out advance directives and to answer questions.
