A good night’s sleep is no longer just a dream
Sleep-Lab patients rave about their experiences
Deborah’s new Sleep Lab has been an immediate hit with patients, drawing rave reviews about the facility’s comfortable rooms, state-of-the-art care and professional attention. Just ask Thomas Welsh, of Medford, a 77-year-old who recently came in for a sleep study when he was suspected of having sleep apnea.
“I’d been on oxygen for about a month to treat my emphysema,” he says. “My nurses told me I needed to have a sleep study done and that Deborah has one of the best programs.”
Welsh wasn’t disappointed. His overnight stay in the plush, hotel-like setting relaxed him enough so he could easily fall asleep. He was woken, however, during the night by the alert technicians who spotted a possible problem.
“They came into my room to put a mask on me,” he says. “Apparently I’d stopped breathing a few times during the night and I needed some help.”
Sleep apnea—when your breathing stops or gets very shallow during sleep—is one of the most common problems Deborah’s sleep technicians pinpoint during the night. Cindy Kelvy, 44, of Mount Holly, is another patient who has sleep apnea.
Showing up at the lab with her oversized Winnie-the-Pooh slippers, all ready for a quiet night’s rest, she too was exceptionally pleased by her sleep study experience.
With a previous cardiac history, undergoing the sleep study at Deborah was a natural fit. She was also hoping to finally solve her sleep problems and get more rest. Not sleeping well was wearing her down.
“It leaves you extremely exhausted,” Kelvy says. “You always want to take a nap. You’re not mentally alert and it’s hard to focus on anything. It’s just very draining.
“The Sleep Lab staff was very professional and courteous and the rooms were very comfortable,” she adds. “It was a very good experience for me.”
