A vascular surgery success story
Architect Nolan Burd of Yardville is only one of Deborah’s many patients who benefit from the hospital’s new on-site vascular surgery program. Burd, 63, has a history with Deborah Heart and Lung Center that dates back to his triple bypass in 1995. It was a milestone in his life, with the surgery taking him past his 53rd birthday, the age at which his father passed away from heart disease.
"I was given a chance to keep on going,” Burd says.
Then, during Burd’s annual scan last December, radiologist Kevin Carr, M.D., detected an 8.2-centimeter abdominal aortic aneurysm. Immediately after Christmas, Gabor Winkler, M.D., Deborah’s Director of Vascular Surgery, operated on Burd. It was a successful procedure, and Burd left the hospital less than two weeks later.
“Dr. Winkler was fantastic,” says Burd, “and he was able to repair the aneurysm. I feel fine and am doing well.”
“Dr. Winkler was compassionate, comforting and reassuring that everything would be all right,” says Burd’s wife, Kathy. “That’s so important for families.”
Burd, like many other Deborah patients, has the convenience of a state-of-the-art vascular program close to home in a hospital where unparalleled care and excellent surgical skill can give people a new lease on life.
