Pacemaker patients get two-minute checkups
A new software technology recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will allow pacemaker patients to receive a checkup in less than two minutes when they come to Deborah’s Pacer Clinic for routine follow-up visits. The technology—QuickOpt—was pioneered by Raffaele Corbisiero, M.D., Director of Deborah’s Electromechanical Therapy Institute, and underwent more than two years of clinical research trials. The groundbreaking software program is now available nationally.

The new technology, which requires running data through a sophisticated computer system, replaces traditional costly and time-consuming echocardiograms. Deborah doctors have greater flexibility to quickly make sure a patient’s pacemaker is optimized, or working up to its full potential.

“Many patients may not have their pacemakers optimized,” says Dr. Corbisiero, “meaning they realize some of the pacemaker’s benefits, but they may not be getting all the benefits these sophisticated devices can deliver.”
