Emergency care, here when you need it

When it comes to emergency medicine, speed and availability are of critical importance. Residents of Burlington, Ocean and Mercer counties now have improved access to healthcare with the opening of the Lourdes Emergency Department (ED) at Deborah Heart and Lung Center.

Operated by Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, the ED on the grounds of Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills offers ambulances and walk-in patients convenient, easy access to advanced emergency care. “We’re excited to offer residents this new service,” says Eugene Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of Lourdes Medical Center. “There’s no reason that someone should have to travel 30 or 40 minutes to the emergency room.”

“For the first time, area residents have close access to top-notch emergency care,” says John R. Ernst, Deborah President and CEO. “Critical care patients benefit from shorter travel times, and all patients benefit from greatly reduced waiting times to see a physician. The new ED provides patients with the latest technology and emergency room organizational practices in a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility.”

A full-service unit

The new 10,000-square-foot Lourdes ED is equipped and staffed 24 hours a day to treat any adult or pediatric emergency. The ED features:

  • 11 general exam/treatment rooms
  • a triage bay
  • specialized treatment areas, including obstetrics and gynecology, cardiac resuscitation and isolation/ decontamination
  • support services including lab and radiology
  • a comfortable waiting area
  • ample parking

Thousands to be served

The Lourdes ED provides emergency care to all patients who need treatment. Patients who require hospital admission will be transferred to the facility of their choice. The new ED is expected to serve 10,000 to 15,000 patients a year, including those from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. “When it comes to healthcare services in New Jersey, accessibility is key. That has become all too clear here in the Garden State, where a number of hospitals have closed in recent years,” says Aline Holmes, R.N., APNC, M.S.N., Senior Vice President of Clinical Affairs with the New Jersey Hospital Association. “We applaud Lourdes for extending its service to the Browns Mills community and providing those residents with the security and peace of mind of easily accessible emergency care.”
