New technology = Good news for patients
Faster scan times, better images
Deborah Heart and Lung Center is pleased to announce the installation of the new Somatom Definition Flash Dual Source CT (computed tomography) scanner, setting a benchmark for imaging and patient safety. It’s not only the fastest scanner on the market—able to sweep the entire chest in 0.6 seconds, performing a cardiac scan in less than half a heartbeat—but also the safest, delivering the lowest dose of radiation available in a CT scanner.
Less Radiation
For Deborah’s patients, this new piece of technology from Siemens, a world leader in imaging equipment, is a welcome addition to the hospital’s diagnostic toolbox. “First and foremost, this is of great benefit to our patients who are worried about the amount of radiation they receive,” says Thomas Gallagher, D.O., Chair of the Department of Radiology. “Through a sophisticated system with increased scan speed and special shielding to prevent radiation exposure to organs not being scanned, patients now receive a very low dose of radiation, good news for patient safety.”
Improved Quality
Dr. Gallagher notes that in addition to enhanced safety, the new scanner’s incredible Faster scan times, better images New technology = good news for patients Thomas Gallagher, D.O. speed is a tremendous boon to image accuracy and patient comfort. “Since we can now view the heart in less than half a heartbeat, there will be fewer errors due to motion in our cardiac and vascular scans.” Scans are of even better quality, allowing for more accurate interpretation and requiring fewer repeat scans. These state-of-the-art views into the heart can help detect cardiac anomalies earlier.
“Deborah prides itself on remaining in the forefront of new technology and patient safety,” Dr. Gallagher adds. “It’s exciting to be a leader in the field.”.
