No. 1 Lady killer: Heart disease
A new report recently issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) once again underscored that heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death among women. One in 30 deaths in 2007 was from breast cancer, compared to about one in three from cardiovascular disease. The AHA also stresses that women's heart attack symptoms are different from men's, and that cardiac tests often don't identify heart disease in women.
It's for reasons like this that we urge women to seek specialty heart care at a facility like Deborah Heart and Lung Center's Women's Heart Center," says Renee Bullock-Palmer, M.D., the Center's director. "Here in a specialty women's clinic, we're trained to look for heart disease, even when obvious symptoms aren't present."
Dr. Bullock-Palmer, along with newly appointed Associate Director Denise Zingrone, D.O., bring a broad range of cardiovascular experience. Along with specialization in women's issues,
female patients at Deborah receive expert care with a personally tailored program of wellness initiatives to help them manage current heart problems and combat future heart disease.
"As part of the Women's Heart Center, we have on-site yoga classes to help women with breathing and stress management; specialty consults with a nutritionist to design healthy diets and weight management plans; and a nationally proven cessation program to help smokers quit," says Dr. Bullock-Palmer. Deborah also offers access to a comprehensive range of services, including diabetes management, sleep studies and balance assessments for women.
