Personalized specialty care for women

Women know all too well about multi-tasking and juggling responsibilities—work, chores, soccer schedules, kids’ dentist appointments and bill paying, to name just a few. Often, women neglect themselves—not making time to eat right and skipping exercise while getting caught in stressful cycles of harried activity—all taking a toll on their health. And sometimes, women even ignore or dismiss the warning signs of heart disease.
Through the generous support of a gift from WaWa, Inc., and a federal grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration, Deborah can now fully support women’s wellness. Deborah Heart and Lung Center is launching a Women’s Heart Center that will offer space and specialists to help women take the time they need to help themselves. In light of the fact that heart disease is the No. 1 killer among American women, the Women’s Heart Center is a welcome addition to the community.
Helping women stay heart-healthy
The Women’s Heart Center specialists are committed to helping women reduce stress, lose weight, quit smoking, eat better, sleep more soundly, manage diabetes and in general learn about the signs and symptoms of heart disease. Together with Deborah’s expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, the center expects to help reduce the onset of heart problems among women.
The Women’s Heart Center staff includes dedicated female cardiologists who have the experience to help their female patients recognize the subtle signs that can point to problems. These specialists clearly understand women’s needs and lifestyles.
“Many women don’t realize how their symptoms of heart disease are different from those in men. And, they’re not aware of the powerful benefits of making healthy lifestyle changes to prevent heart disease,” says Renee Bullock-Palmer, M.D., Director of the Women’s Heart Center. “It’s one of our goals to help educate women, so as they age, they’re aware of the changes their bodies go through. We’re here to help them stay in touch with these changes—and stay healthy at each phase of their lives.”
